FACEBOOK PAGE OF THE ALBEMARLE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

submitted by KA4JJD

CQ AARC Members:

We have had a Facebook (FB) page for about eight years, but it has been somewhat inactive. We are attempting to increase membership on our club’s FB page and its usefulness to its users. One need not be a member of the AARC nor a licensed amateur to join the page. It is meant to supplement rather than compete with our AARC’s webpage (https://www.albemarleradio.org). So, for example, one should list items for sale on the AARC’s Swapfest listing rather than on the FB page. The FB page should be used as an informal way to contact members. I would like members to post pictures of their radio shacks and perhaps post a few sentences on how they became interested in ham radio and what they enjoy doing (e.g. CW, digital modes, ragchewing on SSB, paperchasing, public service, contesting, DX, SWL). We may eventually set up separate rooms to focus on specific interests.

I am quite new to managing a Facebook page, so I plead with you for patience, and I welcome your comments and suggestions.

HOW TO JOIN THE AARC FACEBOOK PAGE

If you have joined other Facebook pages, you can:

  1. Go to the AARC Facebook page in your browser: https://www.facebook.com/groups/albemarleradio
  2. Click on About, and you should be invited to join the group with a bar at the upper left, below the picture.
  3. You will be asked some questions. You do not need to answer these to join, but it will help us send you messages specific to your interests. For example, you need not be a licensed amateur to join, but if you are not, we will try to keep you informed about our licensing courses. And, of course, if you are not a member of the AARC, we will send you some information about the club.
  4. Any problems, please contact Michael KA4JJD at mfr6t@virginia.edu

If you have never previously joined a Facebook page, you may want to try this, which will take you through a search page and allow you to search for, oh, say, amateur radio, which will also introduce you to other pages that you might enjoy. I am a member of the Kenwood 570 page, which has sent me some interesting material.

  1. In web browser, go to www.facebook.com.
  2. Click on GROUPS: bar at top of page, click on icon displaying three little figures.
  3. In menu on left, click on SEARCH GROUPS, which has the magnifying glass cartoon image.
  4. Search for Albemarle Amateur Radio Club. You may only have to type in Albemarle, and your computer will fill in the rest.
  5. When you get a list of groups, which may just contain a single item if you typed in a lot, find us and place cursor over name of our group without clicking. A small note page will appear with Join Group at the lower edge. Click.
  7. Any problems, please contact Michael KA4JJD at mfr6t@virginia.edu
