Northern Piedmont Emergency Net Control Model Scripts 

What If you are needed to be Net Control on Short Notice? The following two procedures are 
provided to assist you. Select one to use or make a similar one for your Net Control activity.

THIS IS THE PROCEDURE USED RECENTLY BY DAVE DAMON - K4DND

	Check the tone settings:
	B20* off  &  B21* on  - CTCSS 151.4
	B11* for Net mode  &  B10* for Normal
	B12* for cross-band
	B13* for Mackey mode
	B10* for normal mode
	DTMF...876 & LTZ	Long Tone Zero {press zero for 3 seconds}
"Calling the Northern Piedmont Emergency Net. Calling the regularly scheduled session of the 
Northern Piedmont Emergency Net for _ (DATE: i.e., July 14, 2005). Calling the Northern Piedmont 
Emergency Net.

Your net control station for this evening is [NAME AND CALL] (i.e., Dave, KILO 4 DELTA 
NOVEMBER DELTA -K4DND) and I’m located in [YOUR LOCATION) the north central part 
Albemarle County. The Northern Piedmont Emergency Net meets every Thursday evening at 8:00 
PM local time. The NPEN is a directed net, and is held on a regular basis to assist in developing 
basic skills of local amateurs. All stations within the coverage of the repeater are invited to join the 
net this evening."

"Any stations with routine traffic, net business, or other announcements?  Please indicate whether 
you have an announcement, traffic, or other business and please call now,"

"Any station with call suffix UNIFORM - ZULU, please call now."

"Any station regardless of call suffix, please call now."

Late check-ins:
"THOSE STATIONS WISHING TO LEAVE THE NET MAY DO SO AT THIS TIME. At this time, the 
formal session of Northern Piedmont Emergency Net will close. Thanks to all - [provide the number 
from your list] stations for checking in. I will now turn the repeater over to K4RKA (or a substitute] 
for the on-the-air swap session, and then W2PVY [or a substitute] for tonight’s technical session."








THE BASIC PROCEDURE USED IN PREVIOUS YEARS

           Use the following structure. If no special training is planned:
           
"Calling the Northern Piedmont Emergency Net
''Calling the Northern Piedmont Emergency Net"
"This is your net control __ (give call) __ located in __ (give location). My name is __ (give
name),
"This is a directed net and meets for the purpose of handling traffic, ARES business and for 
training In organized emergency communications. Informals and comments will be 
accepted after the formal net session closes. Stations within the coverage area of this 
repeater, mobile or fixed, are welcome to join the net"

"Stations with emergency, priority, or time valued traffic call at this time." (Handle this traffic 
at once)

"Stations with traffic, Net business, or bulletins please come now."(List traffic and business 
and hold for later reporting)

"Are there any mobile check-ins?

"Stations with suffix beginning with A-E; (Record call and name: acknowledge each check-
In. Manage in small groups of calls.)"  "Stations with suffix beginning with F-J; (continue 
through the alphabet); K-O; P-T; U-Z." If the night s not busy use larger segments of 
alphabet (A-N; O-Z).

(Keep a written tally of those who checked in. You may call on them for comments in any 
order during the comment session.)
(Handle traffic first, then Net business, etc	(Not rag chew)
Inquire..."Are there any late check-ins?"
Close	(after all formal traffic, business, and late check-ins)
"At this time I will close the formal session of the Northern Piedmont Emergency Net. 
Stations desiring to leave the Net at this time may do so without notifying Net Control. 
Others are invited to remain for comments. Those stations that would like to remain for a 
comment, please standby for a call. To those who must Ieave - Thanks for checking in. I 
hope to hear you on a future Net. This is your NetControl (give your name and caIl).

COMMENTS:  Get comments from all check-ins using list prepared above...(mobile 
stations are always first)...When all comments are complete...ask, "Are there any additional 
check-ins?
Close the informal session	"This Is  (Your name and call)  now closing the Informal session 
and returning the repeater to normal use. (Your call – Clear)."
